Last week my phone pinged with not one but two speaking invitations! Naturally, I broke into a victory shimmy across the kitchen floor (the dog was confused, the kid barely looked up from her cereal). Here’s the funny thing: I genuinely love speaking. Microphones, spotlights, connecting stories to souls—it’s my jam. Yet somehow, the butterflies still RSVP to every event. My palms sweat, my brain rehearses worst-case scenarios, and I wonder if the podium can feel my knees knocking.

Sound familiar? If so, lean in. I’ve learned that on-stage confidence isn’t about silencing nerves; it’s about anchoring them in prayer before we ever grip the mic. Stage fright didn’t vanish the day I published Messy Brave. Confidence, I’ve learned, is less about flawless delivery and more about pre-deciding where my courage comes from. Below are the four pocket-sized prayers I whisper while pacing the hallway—a miniature liturgy for shaky speakers, Zoom presenters, and PTA volunteers alike. When we plant our feet on a promise before we plant them on a platform, the spotlight just feels… lighter.

1 . Prayer of Identity

Scripture: “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God.” – 1 John 3:1

Before the audience decides if they like you, God has already decided you’re loved. Anxiety loves to masquerade as imposter syndrome. Identity prayer snaps the mask off.

Pray

Father, remind me that before I’m a speaker, I’m Your daughter. My worth was settled at the cross, not by applause. Let that truth hush every insecure whisper.

Practice on the way to the venue

  • Say your full name aloud, followed by “…child of God.”
  • Inhale “I’m Yours,” exhale “so I’m safe.” Repeat until the steering-wheel grip loosens.

2 . Prayer of Authority

Scripture: “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us.” – 2 Corinthians 5:20

You’re not the main attraction; you’re the messenger. That swaps the weight of performance for the weight of purpose—much lighter to carry.

Pray

Jesus, You trusted me with a message. Help me carry it with the authority of an ambassador—bold yet humble, certain yet gentle. May every word point back to You.

Quick confidence cue
Visualize handing God a sealed envelope. That envelope is your talk. Your only job? Deliver it intact. The results are His.

3 . Prayer of Clarity

Scripture: “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” – Colossians 4:6

Clarity cuts through rambling nerves. It replaces word-vomit with word-value—every sentence seasoned just right.

Pray

Holy Spirit, sharpen my mind and loosen my tongue. Give me clear words, crisp stories, and the right pauses. Season every sentence with grace and hope.

Practical prep tip

  • Highlight your ONE takeaway in bold on your notes.
  • If you lose your place, glance for the bold line, say it, and keep moving. Listeners remember clarity more than chronology.

4 . Prayer of Impact

Scripture: “My word… will not return to Me empty, but will accomplish what I desire.” – Isaiah 55:11

Impact belongs to God. You can’t track it on a feedback form; sometimes it blooms years later in a heart you’ll never meet.

Pray

Lord, You know every heart in this room. Plant seeds, break chains, spark fresh bravery. Do what only You can do—long after the mic clicks off.

After-talk habit
Instead of replaying every stumble, whisper: “Jesus, water whatever You just planted.” Then walk away released.

Remember, Brave One: the butterflies may flutter, but they don’t get the final word. The One who called you up will hold you up. Now take a deep breath, step forward, and speak your truth.

With you in the mess,
